DAGUERRIAN (sic) GALLERY, 363 BROADWAY, NEW YORK, c.1850, Size: 28mm. NY 731 - COPPER, REEDED EDGE. Much Red Remaining. OBVERSE: ROOT & CO. DAGUERRIAN (sic) GALLERY, 363 BROADWAY REVERSE: FIRST PREMIUM AWARDED TO ROOT & CO. FOR BEST DAGUERREOTYPES. There actually were a significant number of pre civil war tokens dealing with companies and awards in the field of dageureotyping. The Meade Brothers had several tokens with a similar obverse design to this Root & Co. specimen, and there were tokens for Scovilles, Fitzgibbon, Jacobs and Long Companies.
