Medal, 1969, AR, GOSHEN BICENTENNIAL SILVER MEDAL, CAPTAIN JOHN W. GUNNISON, Goshen, NH, United States, So Called Dollar HK-UNL, NGC MS67, Cert# 4028996-011, Medal Number 91 out of 250 minted. Obv. Portrait of Captain John W. Gunnison in Uniform in Center, name in legend around curved top; Rv. Edifice in Center, Incorporated 1791, Settled 1769, all in circle in center, Goshen at top, star to left and right, New Hampshire at bottom. Very Attractive High Mint State Example. Made by Robbins Co., Attleboro, MA. History: Capt. Gunnison was born in Goshen in 1812, graduated at West Point in 1837, and was a Topographical Engineer and Explorer who surveyed much of the West. During his expedition of 1853 t map a rail route through Colorado and Utah, he was massacred by Indians.
