1977 100 Balboa - Design: OBVERSE: Portrait of Vasco Nunez De Balboa ~ REVERSE: Republic of Panama Shield consisting Cornucopia-Horn of Plenty, Winged Wheel, Sun and Moon both appear in the central panel of the shield to indicate that independence was achieved at the hour of twilight, Crossed saber and rifle representing Panama’s civil wars in past give way to modern tools of peaceful labor, Crossed shovel and sledge hammer. The background of the shield represents the vast green vegetation of the tropics.
