Medal, 1926, AE, US SESQUICENTENNIAL EXPO, United States, Philadelphia, PA, So-Called Dollar, HK-452, NGC MS63RB, Cert# 2513839-001. Official Medal. Obv. In upper center, Washington bust, facing r., within 13 stars; below, Philadelphia / 1926 / (Liberty Bell); around, Sesquicentennial-International-Exposition; Rev. Liberty, torch in upraised l. hand and palm branch in r., rides flying Pegasus to r., above clouds; torch held between sun and rays; incuse, at l. border near edge, Albin Polasek (designer). The official medal, in copper, bronze, brass, and nickel, features Washington on the obverse and Columbia riding Pegasus above the clouds. The official medal was designed by Albin Polasek, a noted Czech-American sculptor whose work married the Beaux-Arts style with an erotic, askew naturalism. The Pegasus on the reverse of the medal is a tame motif, more representative of his style than the staid, inscription-heavy obverse.
