1818-W 40 Francs - Design: OBVERSE: Barehead bust of Louis XVIII facing right, his hair tied with a ribbon. Below head is name of the engraver “MICHAUT F.” or Auguste Francios Michaut and a horse head, which is the privy mark of the general engraver Nicolas-Pierre Tiolier. The legend inscription “LOUIS XVIII ROI DE FRANCE.” ~ REVERSE: Crowned Shield w/Three Fleur De Lis between two laurel branches. The value is within wreath of laurel d’olivier, with date below. A “caduceus” which is the privy mark of the local engraver Louis Theophile Francois Lepage and the mintmark “W” which denotes the Lille mint.

Ø Excellent example of the restoration of the Bourbon Monarchy (DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM).
Ø KING LOUIS XVIII was also known as: LOUIS-STANISLAS-XAVIÉR, COMTE (COUNT) DE PROVÉNCE
