Set Description
There is only one denomination that has all of the continental U.S. mint marks. In chronological order they are: None (Philadelphia), "O" (New Orleans), "C" Charlotte, "D" Dalonaga, "CC" Carson City, "S" San Francisco, "D" Denver and "W" West Point. Here is a selection of coins all of the same type but with each of the different mint marks. There are limits to the similarities available. The addition of the motto was in 1866 after the closure of 2 of the 3 early southern mints Charlotte and Dalonaga ("C" and the original "D").
It would be a major error to say that this denomination has been mint at all of the United States mints! The most neglected United States mint in the numismatic literature is the Manila, Philippines "M" mint. In my humble opinion it is under recognized in our current numismatic Bible "the Red Book" and elsewhere in the literature as well. Regardless, there was a full fledged United States Mint in Manila, Philippines operating from the 1920s through the Japanese invasion at the beginning world war II.
This denomination also has more to offer. It was on of the original denominations as delineated by both Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson. I have included as many of the different coins designs as my budget allows. Alas, sadly there is no "Turbin Head / Small Eagle" Variety and only one of the many versions of the "Matron Heads" and that is a "details" coin that I will resubmit for a details grade at some point. I hope you find this as interesting to view as I have to collect.
