Scottish Genuine Commercial Coins 1787-1804 R.C.Bell Type set

Category:  Token & Medals
Owner:  3mctoledo
Last Modified:  12/27/2022
Set Description
This set is for Scotland issues only.

This set is based on R.C.Bell's Commercial Cons 1787-1804 book published by Corbitt & Hunter Ltd, 1963.

The Criteria used by Bell is:

1. Bear a declared Value or a reference to repayment on return to the issuer, or at least an indication that it was to be used as currency.

2. Have been issued in a quantity large enough to have been used as currency.

This set could be a Type set (By Bell number) or collection of all variations of D&H, such as edges. A collection of all edges (D&H) will be a challenge since some are very very rare. I believe Bell type set, rarity being common, is achievable in high grades.

I will try for an inclusive D&H with edges and comment on the D&H varieties missing from this Reference set.

Set Goals
Missing from the Bell type set thus far:
1. Bell Angus No. 2 (D&H 7) *
2. Bell Angus No. 7 (D&H 21-22) *
3. Bell Kirkcudbright No. 1 (D&H 1)
4. Bell Lanark No. 1 (D&H 27)
5. Bell Lanark No. 2 (D&H 28)
6. Bell Lothian No. 3 (D&H 14-16) *

* Bell Type coin in for grading at NGC. I will add them as they finish the process.

(112 Pounds copper US per 1 CWT) This yield by Waters' REF 1 numbers approximately 25,760 GTT's for the Croom's series.

Based on the Rarity Factor and estimated 25,000 coins manufactured relative to the Croom series I would say approximately 7,000+ No. 14's were minted to give someone a rough idea of the initial population.
