Set Description
I've been assembling this group of encased dollars since 2005. It started with one "Buick Dollar." At first I thought it would be cool to have two or three examples, then it became an obsession. They are really fun to collect. All that is required to be part of this group is that the silver dollar must be used in some type of encasement for some form of advertising--as you'll see from this collection, that can include spinners, money clips, key chains, leather advertising pouches, etc. No acrylic paperweights or awards though--I had to set some limits! I'm always interested in learning about and acquiring new varieties like those represented here. Hope you enjoy these.

"Red Curtice" Buick Dollar United States $1 1887 The one that started the collection! This is the "Red Curtice" variety of Encased Buick Dollars.
"You Can Bet a Million" Buick Dollar United States $1 1889 Another type of encased Buick Dollar. I am only aware of two types of Buick U.S. silver dollar encasements.
"Red Curtice" Buick Dollar with Peace Dollar United States $1 1924 S Buick dollars encased with Peace Dollars are much scarcer than Morgans.
Consolidated Foods Dollar United States $1 1898 Silver Anniversary - 1964. Encasement appears to be made of plastic.
Calvert Distillers Dollar United States $1 1881 Produced in 1949 by Calvert Distillers Corp. in NYC, this is a well-known and early encased silver dollars.
DX Super Boron Dollar United States $1 1890 O "Drive a Car That's Alive." Produced in 1963, this is a fun and seldom found encased dollar.
"Silver Dollar Man" Encased Dollar United States $1 1897 One of my favorites! Encased in what appears to be plastic, this piece seems to be a business card of sorts for R.A. "Bob" Perrott, the "Silver Dollar Man." This is a very seldom encountered encased dollar. Rare.
Harrah's Club Dollar United States $1 1885 A common but popular encased. One of many Nevada gambling-related pieces. Try to buy one with the loop intact! - Very attractively toned.
Hotel Last Frontier Dollar United States $1 1922 Another one of many Nevada gambling-related encased dollars.
"Howdy Podner" Dollar #1 United States $1 1922 One of three "Howdy Podner" varieties in my collection.
"Howdy Podner" Dollar #2 United States $1 1921 MORGAN This version is similar to the next, but has a different style of text.
"Howdy Podner" Dollar #3 United States $1 1921 MORGAN The text on this version is curved with taller letters.
Reno Nevada Dollar United States $1 1921 MORGAN "Biggest Little City in the World - Reno"
Las Vegas "Golden Strip" #1 United States $1 1921 MORGAN There are two different versions of this encased of which I'm aware. This version has a triangular loop at the top and a different placement of good luck symbols.
Las Vegas "Golden Strip" #2 United States $1 1900 This variety has a round loop at the top and a different set of good luck symbols on the encasement.
Syracuse Busy Dollar United States $1 1922 Well-known variety and fairly common, one seems to come up for sale every few months.
Amsterdam Busy Dollar United States $1 1924 I've seen only one other for sale. Scarce.
Cutty Sark Scotch Whisky Dollar United States $1 1923 Encased in plastic, this is a large encased dollar. Both Peace and Morgan dollars are pretty common. I've also seen a couple varieties with names on the reverse...I do not know the origins of these.
Utility-Gas Dollar United States $1 1924 Encased in celluloid (I think), this is a beautiful and very scarce dollar. I've only seen a couple of them.
California Club Carson City Dollar United States $1 1884 CC All the examples I've seen boast an 1884-CC dollar. These don't come up for sale too often, but bring a lot of interest when they do.
Tidy House Advertising Dollar United States $1 1899 O Encased in a corrugated cardboard advertisement. Many of you will recognize this example. - Because of the toning, I believe this to be the original dollar for the encasement.
Prophylactic Advertising Dollar United States $1 1896 Probably unique. Looks homemade. Certainly the most unusual (and largest) piece in my collection.
Olden Camera Dollar #1 United States $1 PEACE I am aware of two different Olden Camera encasements. This one is wider and flatter.
Olden Camera Dollar #2 United States $1 PEACE This second variety is smaller and has rounded edges.
Nationwide Van Lines Dollar United States $1 1921 S Encased in acrylic, the old-style phone number dates this piece.
Joe Levy Jr. Good Luck Dollar United States $1 1921 MORGAN Sorry for the blurry scan, but it is the best I can do. This piece is encased in thick acrylic. Probably a business card. Interestingly, it looks as if the dollar is counterfeit due to appearance and the "X" scratched into the cheek. Cool.
Bowaters Southern Paper Corp Safety Award Dollar United States $1 1921 MORGAN Awarded for "First 1,000,000 Safe Man-Hours July 13, 1963." The encasement is stamped "Sterling."
Louis M. Rubin Co. Dollar United States $1 1922 Encased in acrylic. Appears crudely made with a hole to hang on a keychain.
Rubloff Dollar #1 United States $1 1921 MORGAN I am aware of two varieties of these Rubloff acrylic-encased advertising dollars. This is the "three dimensional variety." The wishbone and horseshoe are placed on the dollar before the acrylic is applied.
Rubloff Dollar #2 United States $1 1884 This is the "two dimensional variety." The entire advertisement appears to be a sticker which is affixed to the coin and then encased in acrylic. I have also heard of (but not seen) a sticker dollar like this but not encased in acrylic.
Old Sunny Brook Whiskey Good Luck Dollar United States $1 1902 O This is a "snap-together" case with an advertisement for "Old Sunny Brook Brand Kentucky Whiskey." - Holds a nice 1902-O dollar, which came with the piece.
Publix Super Markets Dollar United States $1 1922 Made in 1955 celebrating the 25th anniversary of Publix Super Markets. I knew about this variety for a long time before I finally found one for sale. I was fortunate to acquire it. I've since seen two or three more. They are pretty scarce.
Adams Furniture & Hardware Dollar United States $1 1922 Made in 1951. Says "B.O.B. Adams Furniture & Hardware 1951." Only the second example I've seen. The other was dated 1948, so these were obviously awarded for a few years.
Old Crow Bourbon Dollar #1 United States $1 1881 O I know of two "Old Crow" varieties. Both are "snap-together" holders. The reverses on the two varieties are the same but the obverses are different.
Old Crow Bourbon Dollar #2 United States $1 1923 The second type of which I'm aware.
Woeber Auto Body Keychain United States $1 1921 MORGAN Made to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Woeber Auto Body & Mfg Co. in 1967. - Definitely the original dollar.
Van Camp's Spinner United States $1 1882 This well-known piece--a Reader's Digest premium probably from the 1960s--is only available once in awhile.
"W" Money Clip United States $1 1884 1884 dollar encased in a money clip with a "W" at the top and "Since 1884" at the bottom. This is a maverick--if you know what the "W" stands for, please let me know!
Pabst Blue Ribbon Money Clip United States $1 1890 1890 dollar encased in a money clip advertising PBR. The scan is a little blurry, but the bottom says "Selected America's Best in 1893."
"Howdy Podner" Money Clip #1 United States $1 1922 One of two money clips advertising Las Vegas, Nevada. Both feature the familiar "Howdy Podner." This one is pretty well-worn.
"Howdy Podner" Money Clip #2 United States $1 1899 Same general style as the previous one pictured, but appears to be of a later vintage. Sorry about the blurry scan.
Harrah's Club Reno Money Clip United States $1 1923 1923 Peace Dollar encased in a souvenir brass money clip from Harrah's Club in Reno, Nevada.
Bud Baker "Key to Reno" Money Clip United States $1 1885 This is a very cool money clip. The reverse is shaped like a key and it says "Mayor Bud Baker - Key to Reno." This would have been about 1960 or so. The initials "WM" are on the obverse.
Pontiac Money Clip United States $1 1921 MORGAN "Dollar for Dollar, You can't beat a Pontiac" stamped on reverse. I don't know if these were given by Pontiac as employee gifts, with a new car, or what. If you know, please share.
"Jack Blank" Silver Anniversary Pontiac Money Clip United States $1 1922 This is the much rarer of the two Pontiac money clips I have in my collection. In fact, I've never seen another like this one. Around the Pontiac logo on the obverse it says " Silver Anniversary" and on the reverse it says "Jack Blank Says - Dollar for Dollar You can't beat a Pontiac."
"Hap Miller's" Advertising Dollar Pouch Var #1 United States $1 ADVERTISING POUCH Here is the first of a handful of silver dollar leather advertising pouches. - Has a nice 1921 Morgan Dollar inside.
"Gordon I. Logan" Leather Advertising Pouch United States $1 ADVERTISING POUCH Brown leather pouch. Reverse is blank. Who is Gordon I. Logan?! - 1888 Morgan Dollar inside.
