All of these1963s came from the same beat-up old hand-wrapped roll. Never judge a roll by its wrapper, I suppose. Most of the pennies developed gorgeous tones of blue, sea-green, peach, and chocolate. This is one of the very nicest in that jackpot roll.

The roll this came from produced an unusually high percentage of gems. The end coins were nothing special, but the interior coins were almost all velvety, burgundy-wine and chocolate colored. From fresh dies with hammered strikes and great surface preservation, it was the holy grail of memorial rolls.
