In this registry, I had assembled the various pieces with the proposed motto additions including "GOD OUR TRUST" patterns and development on small denomination pieces as well as possible transitional designs. My one goal was to assemble all “God Our Trust” 50 Cent pieces ( 12 in total) struck in 1861 – 63 in both Copper and Silver. While GOD OUR TRUST was the precursor to the "IN GOD WE TRUST" there are patterns that are so called "TRANSITIONAL" pieces that predate the actual pieces minted with the new motto "IN GOD WE TRUST". To obtain a sample of each denomination, of each province and of each grade of Mint State and Proof patterns is excessively challenging for patterns that have only 10 or less in existence. The collection covers all the four provinces of South Africa and includes a few well graded Griquatown patterns with several having no official date stamped on them. In the collection are some really unique pattern coins namely the 5s Aluminum and Pond depicting President Burgers. There is a unique copper-nickel Cape Of Good Hope Penny and a few selective Orange Free State pennies that have beautiful green and orange hue colours. Please note that the majority of statistics depicted have used an extensive amount of information from pattern coin catalogs and other reference using the Krause world coins catalog. Although the Krause world coin catalog book is used by NGC as the major source of referencing. It is currently challenging when NGC provide grading that has limited references to weight and other specifications as many patterns have variations in weight. This results in South African Numismatics speculating the NGC grade in comparison to a catalog which accounts for weight, size and composition thus expanding on the South African range of patterns.
