I have a competitive set of Proof Westward Journey Nickels. In my set at home, I include this 2003 nickel along with the 2006 nickel in that collection. They bracket the Westward Journey's nicely. BTW - I can't explain the color differences between the two images . . . they were done at the same time on the same scanner . . .

This nickel is composed of 90 percent silver. The 2003 obverse features the traditional profile of Jefferson. It’s the last nickel with this design. Monticello, Jefferson's home, is on the reverse.

This nickel is composed of 90 percent silver. The 2006 obverse features another new view of Jefferson . . . face on. It’s the first US coin that the bust of the President isn’t shown in profile. Monticello is back on the reverse, but the quality of the reverse is supposedly more detailed and sharper than the old Monticello: Facets on the dome have been restored; balconies, doors and windows are sharper . . . What about the steps? Will they all have six steps now?
