Interesting piece, with a small curved clip visible at 1:30. Originally suspended from an enameled bow-tied American flag.

Dated 1903, as the St. Louis World's Fair was originally scheduled to open in that year, but was delayed until 1904.

Universal Exposition. St. Louis. United States of America. MCMIV - Silver Medal. Louisiana Purchase Exposition. Bronze, 2 5/8" square.

This particular medal is the silvered bronze variety, as noted in Hendershott, and has developed a colorful deep purple / blue / brown toning, particularly striking on the reverse.

Very rare exhibit medal from the Philippine exhibits, surprisingly not listed in Hendershott.

It is described by Eglit as LPE-2, but no photo is shown.

Krueger similarly describes this piece, denoting it as Krueger-13, but also lacks a photograph.

The obverse and reverse designs are identical to the regular bronze exhibit award medal, but with an additional line of text indicating "Philippine Exhibit" on the reverse.

Silver, 33mm - Example of the "No-Star" variety, lacking the star and rays designating St. Louis on the reverse map.

Unfortunately, a cleaned and polished example, which I debated including within this collection, but ultimately chose to do so as an example of the "No-Star" variety in silver. Hopefully to be replaced in due course!

Star reverse with rays. Rarity R-6

Very nicely toned copper example of this medal, with hints of red, blue, and green progressing inward from the peripheral edges, leaving the portraits on the obverse with a beautiful highlight.

Star Reverse variety

Obverse - conjoined busts of Napoleon & Jefferson - beaded border
Reverse - Relief map of US with Louisiana Purchase territory represented - beaded border.

Yellow bronze composition, which is not very attractive, and has darkened unevenly, leaving some ugly splotches.

Beautiful chocolate-blue reflective fields, with hints of copper showing. I'm unable to capture the real beauty of this medal with my photos. I feel this piece may be copper HK-301. I find it unusual that NGC assigned a "BN" designation, which is usually reserved for copper pieces.

Bronze - (Krueger-4)
Copper - (Krueger-5)
