This medal was struck the same year as the 1952 Comemmorative Set (10 centavos, 20 centavos, and 40 centavos) at the Philadelphia Mint. Anthony De Francisci was responsible for the design. The observe depicts a slightly different vantage point than the 1952 Comemmorative Set. The reverse shows the six provinces of Cuba (at the time) with their respective Provincial Seals circling the National Coat of Arms. There is a total mintage of 5,000 for these medals. These are difficult to find in grades MS-65 or above.

This medal was struck the same year as the 1953 Comemmorative Set (1 centavo, 25 centavos, 50 centavos, and Peso) at the Philadelphia Mint. The observe depicts a slightly different vantage point than the observe on the 1953 Comemmorative Set. The reverse shows two large high relief reefs. In between the high relief reefs note the purpose the medal was minted, the anniversary of Jose Martin’s 100th birthday. There is an unknown number of these medals that were minted. Considering their size, the mintage has to be significantly less than the 1952 Comemmorative medal mintage of 5,000. These are difficult to find period, and even harder at MS-63 or above.
