This is an example of the first $2 legal tender note issued by the Federal government to help finance the Civil War.
It is not one of my favorite designs, but is a very nice note for the grade. It received the infamous "Net" grade for an "Ink Burn." Not sure whether the ink burn originated in the printing process or was added later. I would normally not buy "Net" graded notes, but I thought this one was really nice and the ink burn is very small and unobtrusive.
I bought this graded on eBay in December 2012.

This beautiful Rainbow Note has Great Color, as noted by PMG on the holder. I could not agree more. Rich blue green hues grace the face of this note. It looks significantly under graded to me, but what do I know. Lyn Knight thought it was XF/AU.

This beautiful example of the large-size $2 legal tender note is from 1917. PMG indicates exceptional paper quality. Really nice looking note for the grade.

I really like the design of this Hancock Silver Certificate. It is very ornate and beautiful on both sides. This is a mid-grade note designated with exceptional paper quality by PMG. Acquired 6/13 from a dealer collector in Arizona.

The name for this note shall be the "Windeuce" for the portrait of William Windom (Treasury Secretary) on the face of the $2 silver certificate or deuce note.
This is a nice mid grade Windeuce (Fr. 246) with exceptional paper quality. It is not one of my favorite designs, and did not make the top 100 currency note list. Acquired eBay 2013.

The design of this beautiful Educational Silver Certificate is ranked as number 11 in the 100 Greatest American Currency Notes book written by Q. David Bowers. I couldn't agree more. Spectacular designs on both the front and back, featuring Science Presenting Steam and Electricity to Industry and Commerce on the front, and portraits of Robert Fulton and Samuel Morse on the back.

This is my second $2 large size note added. It is a nice mid-grade mini-porthole with exceptional paper quality noted on the holder. This was an October 2012 acquisition from the Dallas Heritage auction. There were a number of these notes available in the auction and I got it for a reasonable price.
This note is Number 67 of the 100 Greatest American Currency Notes (Book by Q. David Bowers).

One of my favorite designs, this $2 1890 Treasury Note looks to be appropriately graded at 25. It was given a net grade for a tear. Where? I can't see it, and that's why I like it. I passed on a similar graded note without the net because this one looked far superior. The back of this note is a spectacular design.
Acquired in a graded state in the Stacks auction from November 2013. I got it for an amount at the low end of the estimated range, and am pleased with the note.

This almost uncirculated Treasury Note from 1891, which I shall call the "1891 McPherson Military Note," depicts General James Birdseye McPherson in full military uniform. General McPherson died in the Civil War in 1864 at age 35, fighting for the Union Army in Atlanta. He was the second highest ranking Union officer to die in the Civil War.
The reverse of this note is not as ornate as the 1890 Treasury Note, but it is a beautiful note. Acquired eBay 2013.

Well, I finally finished this set of $2 notes. It took me many years, and this note was the hardest to acquire. I can't tell you how many times I ended up second or third in bidding for a Lazy Deuce. This is a nice mid-grade example that looks better than the grade. Acquired at a Heritage auction in May 2023.

This note is known as the "Battleship Note" for obvious reasons. The spectacular battleship design on the reverse earned this note the number 22 ranking in the 100 Greatest American Currency Notes (book by Q.David Bowers).
The Bank of New York issued this note, and the reverse picture represents the battleship USS New York. According to Mr. Bowers, the actual battleship was damaged in atomic bomb testing at Bikini Atoll in 1946, and then was intentionally sunk during gunnery-fire practice near Hawaii in 1948.
Acquired at eBay in February 2013.
