Owner's Description

This note is known as the "Battleship Note" for obvious reasons. The spectacular battleship design on the reverse earned this note the number 22 ranking in the 100 Greatest American Currency Notes (book by Q.David Bowers).

The Bank of New York issued this note, and the reverse picture represents the battleship USS New York. According to Mr. Bowers, the actual battleship was damaged in atomic bomb testing at Bikini Atoll in 1946, and then was intentionally sunk during gunnery-fire practice near Hawaii in 1948.

Acquired at eBay in February 2013.
