Owner's Description

The Yorktown emission has long been recognized as the scarcest emission of the series. This emission was authorized by the Continental Congress in York, Pennsylvania. The Congress had fled to York to escape the British Army which was advancing on Philadelphia. This emission was heavily counterfeited and was recalled early, accounting for the scarcity.

The CC-76 is the rarest bill of the Continental Bills. PMG has certified a total of 6 bills with just 2 in grades of AU or better.

This bill has images of Strong Wind Creating Waves which was sketched by Benjamin Franklin and the Latin motto, "VI Concitate" which translates to English as "Driven by force". The signers names are unreadable on this well-worn bill. There were 208,330 - $20 bills authorized in this emission.
