"Venom" After 'Venom' suprised Mary Jane at her apartment last issue she is in total shock. Peter comes back and tries to help her get her thoughts together. He knows that Mary Jane is quite a tough woman, so whatever did this to her must have been really horrible.
Mary Jane can't stay at the apartment that night because it scares her so much so her and Peter stay in a hotel that night. She then tells Peter that they can move into the luxury Beford Towers. Mary Jane has the idea to get some pre- move pictures so Peter swings (literally) over to his old Chelsea Street apartment to get his camera...and the Fantastic Four's sonic blaster for the symbiote.
As he's walking out, someone's following him. So he ducks into an alley and swings off as Spider-Man to get away.
While Peter is having dinner at Aunt May's, we go to Our Lady Of The Saints Church where a man talking to himself until a security guard tells him to stop because he broke in. But all of a sudden the black symbiote comes over the man and he kills the guard despite not wanting to. "But nothing can in the way of our plans! Nothing will!" he says.
Meanwhile, at the new Parker residence, some of their friends are helping out moving stuff into their new apartment. Peter's talking to Robbie Robertson out on the balcony when he see's the symbiote swinging past and rushes off!
Spidey follows the symbiote to an abandoned building where they fight for a bit until Venom reveals his identity as Eddie Brock! An origin story follows that tells of Brock being a journalist for the Daily Globe and writing articles about the Sin Eater a few months back. He says he got a call from a man claiming to be the Sin Eater! Of course, Brock writes a story about it but when Spider-Man reveals that really Stan Carter was the Sin Eater Brock was fired, The Globe was a laughing stock and his peers questioned his ethics. And Brock blamed Spider-Man for all this, if he hadn't of butted in, none of this would've happened...
Then, just as he was about to commit suicide, he was asking for forgiveness at the Lady Of Our Saints Church when the symbiote fell down onto him! They were joined...and he knew everything about Spider-Man! So now Brock had the power to destory his most hated enemy.
Back in the present, Spider-Man is just about to jump for the sonic blaster when they start fighting again! Spider-Man thinks he's knocked out Venom with a steel girder so he decides to go off, think of a new plan when all of a sudden he's swung back into the building by Venom and knocked out!
When he wakes up, Spider-Man finds himself in a huge web ball inside the bell of Our Lady Of Saints Church! Venom is going to kill him with extreme sound from the bell. The clapper starts and only Spider-Man's super-strenght saves him the first few times, but he can't keep it up for any longer. So he holds on to the bell and that rips him out of the web ball! So now it's for Round Two with Venom.
They start fighting on the roof of the church when Spidey devises a plan. The symbiote must have a limited amount of webbing; and it must of used most of it to make the huge web ball, so if Spidey kicked Venom off he would shoot webbing up to save him, but if cut the webbing (with a bit of sharp roofing he found), Venom's webbing reserves would deplete! So he goes ahead with the plan and it works. Brock falls but is still alive, along with the symbiote. So Spidey takes them both (they're knocked out) to the Fantastic Four headquaters where they are kept in a special tank until a special prison cell can be made for them at the Vault.
And soon, Peter is at home talking to Mary Jane. She says she doesn't like Peter wearing the black costume, it brings back the terror of Venom sneaking up on her, and Peter agrees. So, Peter ditches the black costume and put's on the good ol' Red And Blues! And as the last page says: "The Legend Begins Anew!".

"The Gift" Recently, in Amazing #391, Aunt May had yet another heart attack, this one brought on by the trauma of the supposed return of Peter's parents and their subsequent exposure as in-genuine. She fell into a coma, and stayed that way for eight issues.
In issue 400 she recovers and returns home for a week, during which time May, Peter, Mary Jane, and Mary Jane's Aunt Anna spend the week together, enjoying each other's company. At the top of the Empire State building, May shocks Peter by telling him that she has known for years that he is Spider-Man. She apparently denied it to herself for that time.
Peter spends a few last, quiet hours with her, and she silently passes away. The funeral is held, and she is buried next to Uncle Ben. The Scarlet Spider shows up later, to pay his respects privately.

"Transformations, Literal & Otherwise" This issue picks up maybe a couple of days after the events which transpired in Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 2) Annual 2001. MJ is gone and Pete has moved into a new flat by himself. He's feeling a bit agro because of what life has served up to him lately, so he goes for a swing as Spidey. He demolishes a derelict building, scheduled for demotion. He visits some old haunts, including his High school and helps out a nerdy kid. Later, when Spidey's in the middle of getting some payback on some young thugs, he is interrupted by a stranger named Ezekiel.
Ezekiel, has spider-powers similar to Pete, is older though and knows intimate details about Pete. Ezekiel leads Pete on a chase, all the while teasing him (and us) with his knowledge. He talks of Pete being destined for a greater purpose and having to face a great struggle in the future. He also poses the question that is supposed to rock Pete's (and the readers) world. "Did the radiation enable the spider to give you these powers? or was the spider trying to give you those powers before the radiation killed it?" After this, Ezekiel dissappears and leaves Pete boggled.
In prologue, we are introduced to two mysterious and supposedly menacing characters. A power sucking evil dude named Morlun and his 'yes man" dex. They've arrived in the city and seem to have ill intentions for our beloved wall-crawler.

"Mr. Parker Goes To Washington Part One of Three" Peter awakens next to Mary Jane, hearing a voice. He and Mary Jane see that its Tony Stark's voice coming from the eagle statue in their room. Through the speaker he tells Peter that he wants to see him in the lab. Tony reveals to Peter that he's making the final slight modifications to his new uniform, considering Peter's old one was "just cloth." Stark elaborates on some of these enhancements including Mesh Webbing that allows for gliding, bullet-proof & heat resistant Kevlar and an emergency scanner. The suit is now ready to go but before taking it for a spin Peter inquires Tony as to how Mary Jane's arm was healed so quickly, seeing as it was broken yesterday. Just after it was broken the bone was reset and Tony injected a compound around the break to stop the swelling, and a secondary layer of flesh tone hid the injury (Tony states that due to his career, such a process is standard procedure.)
An hour later two armed criminals with a hostage attempt to escape the police. The tattooed thug says to the other (Jimmy) that once they get in the tunnel to waste the hostage as she's a witness, end of problem. Jimmy however thinks not as he sees Spider-Man sporting his new Iron Spider Armor. The tattooed thug assures Jimmy not to worry as the way travels is by swinging from things, and there's nothing to swing from, and that Spider-Man can't fly.
Peter dives, open his arms and glides using the suit's mesh webbing, appearing as if he's flying. Spidey gets on top of their car, and using his new lenses sees the pair's body heat through thermal vision, subsequently hearing the police on his emergency scanner repeat that there are units on 59th Street. Spidey shoots webs at the steering wheel, and directs them towards the police. The tattooed thug tries to fire at the cops but Spider-Man simply webs the gun aside.
Jimmy surrenders peacefully, and Spider-Man takes the hostage out of the trunk. The tattooed thug blames Spidey for all of it, quickly takes Jimmy's gun and fires. Peter doesn't have time to get the girl clear and takes the bullet directly to his back. To the tattooed thug's surprise Spider-Man is unharmed, and the police warn him not to agitate Spidey as he's already supposed to be dead.
Later on that night Peter goes to Tony asking what his underlying motive is, and he reveals that he wants Peter to be his right hand man in the coming conflict. Peter agrees and Tony tells him to pack his bags because they're going to Washington.

"Back in Black part 1 of 5" As Aunt May reels from the gunshot, Peter runs out of the hotel room, and throws a vehicle up in the air towards the sniper, sending it crashing through the side of the building. Peter then runs back into the room, as MJ calls 911, picks up Aunt May and web-swings furiously through the streets of New York, finally crashing into a hospital room, and putting May's body on a bed. As doctors come in to frantically deal with her wound, Peter sits outside the room, against the outside wall.
In prison, Fisk gets news of the success of the mission, with one of the secondary targets being down. He recites a favourite quote of his to a security guard, who gave him the message.
The next day, Peter and MJ meet up in an alley, as he tells her where May is, and what the initial prognosis is. He gives her instructions, on how to register May, so that there isn't any suspicion. He swings off, with the intent to hurt someone in response to what's happened to Aunt May.
Peter revisits the scene of the crime, where the Sniper sat. He encounters a cop, and, not saying anything, merely webs the cop up against the wall. As he surveys the abandoned room, he finally locates a scope that the Sniper left behind, his first solid clue. He heads to bust in a arms deal, so that he can find out the answers he desires, to locate the sniper who purchased the hardware. He savagely beats them and interrogates the last standing thug, who gives him the information he desires.
At the hospital, MJ searches for Aunt May, finally finding the doctor who treated her the night before. She finds out that Aunt May is in a coma, and that if nothing changes, she's going to die.
Peter swings to the top of a building, and recovers an old cloth version of his black costume, which reflects his current state of mind, so that he can send a message, to those who hurt his family. He's ready to kill those who harmed his family...
