Set Description:

Hello and welcome to: Dracula by Mignola.
Thanks for looking.

Newest addition to this set (5. May 2023):
Bram Stoker´s Dracula #2. Graded 9.8.

My background for collecting this set:

It was 1976 and I was about seven years old. On Black & White TV I saw the Dracula movie from 1958 with Christopher Lee as Count Dracula and Peter Cushing as Doctor Van Helsing. I was both scared and fascinated at the same time, and I have been a fan of ( good ) vampire movies since.

Years later, as a grown up, I read Bram Stoker´s novel. It was good, but not what I had expected.

In 1992 I began to hear about that Francis Ford Coppola ( Director of The Godfather trilogy ) was making a new movie adaption of Stoker´s novel. A version that would be much more true to the source material. That caught my interest. I saw the movie and was blow away by the art direction and the dark mood.

In 1994 Mike Mignola started Hellboy, and I was onboard from the start. I tried to find out what Mignola had worked on before Hellboy and was very happy to discover, that he had done artwork on an comic book adaption of Coppola´s Dracula movie.

Mignola´s artwork here is a visual tour de force from start to finish and his use of heavy black shadows, to create a dark, dramatic mood, can be seen already here. This combined with Roy Thomas perfect script makes this one of the best comic book adaptions of a movie ever, right next to ALIEN - THE ILLUSTRATED STORY by Archie Goodwin ( writer ) & Walter Simonson ( art ) and STAR WARS by Roy Thomas ( writer ) and Howard Chaykin ( art ).

In 2014 I saw the Dracula movie from 1958 again for the first time in 38 years. And it still scared me ! Not many movie can do that to me anymore. I think the highly dramatic music by James Bernard have a huge say in this. And then of course the stunning Christopher Lee :)

In September 2014 I began collecting CGC books and "Dracula by Mignola" ( as I call it ) was one the first comics that came to my mind, that I would like to collect. So here goes...

If you are a fan of Vampires or a fan of Mike Mignola´s art - or both - check it out.
