Owner's Description

Exceptionally well-centered with most all legends clear and distinct. The border is nearly perfect on the obverse and less-so on the reverse. A die crack appears in the obverse field running underneath the head of Caracalla between 10:00 and 4:00. This same die crack appears at 2:00 on the reverse. The choice of using three different denarii of Caracalla became more evident after studying his life. He initially ruled jointly with his father, Septimus Severus (youth), but it was his father's ambition that Carcalla and his brother rule jointly together (adolescent). His dream came true upon his death in 211, but Carcalla had his brother put to death later that year so he alone could be sole emperor (adult).
