Owner's Description
This 31.10 grams, .999 Ag, 40mm, 1 ONZA Mexican Libertad have a limited mintage of 746,400 and a very low NGC population of 817. The obverse features an image of the column flanked by the volcanoes Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl. It also includes the words 1 ONZA, PLATA PURA, and 2014 LEY .999. The reverse of each coin features the Mexican coat of arms, including the image of an eagle eating a snake while perched on a prickly pear cactus. The coin is inscribed with the words ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS above. A decorative oak and laurel leaf border can be seen below, tied together by a ribbon, which represents strength and peace. The angel — also known as the goddess of Victory, Winged Victoria — was a statue built for the centennial of Mexico’s War of Independence from Spain. The column was completed in 1910, and was the center of festivities for the centennial. The golden sculpture features the goddess offering a laurel wreath for victory.
