Owner's Description
Bright original surfaces, light marks consistent with the grade. These cents were the same diameter as the modern cent, but they were heavier and thicker. After the public accepted to thinner and lighter Civil War tokens, the government decided that the public would accept a thinner and lighter cent. The bronze cents were also much easier to strike. The mint employees referred to this copper-nickel alloy as "the devil's copper."
