Owner's Description
In 1854 and ’55 the mint continued to place arrows on both sides of the date to indicate that these half dollars contained less silver than the pieces that the mint had issued earlier. The rays around the eagle were discontinued, however, creating a different type coin. In 1856 the mint removed the arrows as well, therefore returning to the previous type.
