Owner's Description

The members of Congress took a dim view of the fact that the new $20 gold coins did not have the motto, "In God we trust," included in the design. In 1908 Congress passed legislation that required the in the inclusion of the motton in the design of hte new $10 and $20 coins. For the $20 gold piece the wording was added above the sun on the reverse.

The motto would continue to appear on the coin for the rest of it's run until 1933 when president Franklin D. Roosevelt ended the coinage of gold for domestic use in the U.S. economy.
