Set Description:
The Detective Comics run of issues 471 through 476 is a classic within a classic: Detective Comics 401 through 500. Befitting a classic, my ultimate goal for this set is to have all six issues in it in Comics Guaranty Corporation (CGC) graded 9.8 or higher grade and, preferably, with white pages.
As you will note in the comments to some of the comic books in this set, it took me several years from the creation of my Detective Comics 401 to 500 set to obtain some of these comic books in CGC graded 9.8 grade. Specifically, the "hard to find" issues in this grade were issue numbers 473, 474, 475, and 476. Of course, I have yet to find copies of issue numbers 471 and 472 in, at least, CGC graded 9.8 grade, although in 2013 I was able to upgrade issue number 472 from a CGC graded 9.4 Old CGC Universal Blue Label copy to a CGC graded 9.6 copy when a fellow CGC Board and Registry member placed one for sale on the Comics Market - Forum Only Selling Area.
As with all of the issues in the larger Detective Comics 401 through 500 run, I purchased several copies of each of the six issues in this set when they first "hit the newsstand" at the "almost-corner grocery store." However, as I note in the Set Description for Detective Comics 401 through 500, all the comic books in this set were purchased "slabbed" as I have not submitted any of my original owner copies of the comic books in this set to CGC for grading. As I state in the Detective Comics 401 through 500 set, I hope to send my original owner copies of Detective Comics 471 through 476; those that I believe are "worthy" of CGC grading; to CGC for grading in the future, more than likely after my retirement.
Well, enough said, at least for now, it is time to continue trying to improve this set.

"I'm still looking for a CGC 9.8 (or 9.9 or 10) graded copy of Detective Comics 471. I hope that (2013) 2014 delivers one into my eager hands."
As it turned out, 2015 was the "Year of the Cat", uh, I mean when a copy of Detective Comics 471 finally became part of this set. Unfortunately, this copy of Detective Comics 471 has a "bothersome" left side front (and right side back) cover miswrap (but at least it has white pages); this copy will do until a "perfect" CGC graded copy arrives.
What can be said about this cover other than it is another great one in this run. Enjoy!

Detective Comics 472: Classic cover, classic story (no more need be said).
Well, perhaps a bit more. I purchased the CGC graded 9.8 [9.6] copy you see before you from Mr. MCMiles[Ghost Town: the 9.6], a fellow CGC Board member, and the transaction could not have been smoother.
Detective Comics 472 has a cover that only looks better every time I look at it. The story only gets better as well; I wish they could all be as good.
I own a few-more than two, less than 6 (?)-original owner copies of this book but have not the slightest idea in which acid free comic book box they are in because, well, I used to think that I did not need to list the books I owned or their exact "box" location because I would remember. Can you guess what happened?
Keeper[, until I locate a typical CGC graded 9.8 copy [the description of my CGC graded 9.4 read:although this early universal label beauty is as perfect as perfect can be. (Please see image number two)].
Image #2 is of the CGC graded 9.6 copy that I own of Detective Comics 472; I also own a 9.4 copy of this issue that is in a "old Blue Label" CGC holder and has white pages.
Issue Credits (as per the CGC Universal Label):
Steve Englehart story
Marshall Rogers and Terry Austin cover and art
Issue Note (as per the CGC Universal Label):
"Death" of Hugo Strange.

A gorgeous cover by Marshall Rogers makes this Detective Comics issue one of my favorite in this set.
It took me quite some time to find a CGC graded 9.8 copy of this book, but the copy I found is simply stunning as the scan shows.
The Marshall issues on this run contain some of the most gorgeous comic book art I have ever seen. Simply brilliant "stuff."

In the "Eye of the Beholder?" No, just Deadshot taking aim at The Batman in what is another outstanding cover in the run of Detective Comics 401 to 500.
It took me several years to find the "perfect" CGC graded 9.8 copy of Detective Comics 474, but I finally did!
Keeper!

I have looked high and low for the perfect CGC 9.8 graded copy of Detective Comics 475 and I have not yet found it. Perhaps 2013 will be the year I acquire it.
Got it in 2013!!!

The issue of Detective Comics 475 that is in this set "took the long road" to reach it; approximately two years of travel.
This book is a keeper until a white paged perfectly centered CGC graded 9.8 (9.9 or 10.0!) copy comes along and I am able to purchase it.

Another stunning cover in this run with the Joker making life, to say the least, interesting for the Batman.
The story in this issue, as in Detective Comics 475, is among the best you will find in comic books; tense, exiting, original.
The CGC graded 9.8 copy of Detective Comics 476 reached, as did several other issues in this run, this registry set on December 22, 2013. The respective copy of Detective Comics 476 is a top tier one with white pages, bright cover gloss, excellent registration, a very, very slight cover miswrap near the top spine-side, and two tiny color breaking spine ticks. It is a solid CGC graded 9.8 copy of this book.
Keeper, until I locate a typical CGC graded 9.8 copy without the listed flaws or a CGC graded 9.9 (10.0) copy.
