Set Description:
This was a much anticipated mini-series when this first came out; when I first heard about it I'd actually thought Marvel and DC were actually merging. That said, personally think the JLA/Avengers collaboration was better executed.
Happy to have come across a complete 9.8 issue 1-4 set for sale in Ebay. Hoping to complete with the missing preview slab someday.
Plot Summary (taken from Wikipedia)
Two brothers who personify the DC and Marvel Universes become aware of the other's existence, and challenge each other to a series of duels involving each universe's respective superheroes. The losing universe will cease to exist. The story has an "out of universe" component in that although there are eleven primary battles: Aquaman (W) vs. Namor; Elektra (W) vs. Catwoman; Flash (W) vs. Quicksilver; Robin (W) vs. Jubilee; Silver Surfer (W) vs. Green Lantern; and Thor (W) vs. Captain Marvel, five of the outcomes were determined by fan votes: Batman (W) vs. Captain America; Spider-Man (W) vs. Superboy; Storm (W) vs. Wonder Woman; Wolverine (W) vs. Lobo; and Superman (W) vs. Hulk.
Marvel Comics received more votes than DC Comics, although the storyline does not show one side as being victorious. As part of a last-ditch effort to save their worlds, the Spectre and the Living Tribunal were able to briefly force the "brothers" to resolve the situation by temporarily creating a new universe, called the Amalgam Universe, which is occupied by merged versions of many of the heroes (such as Dark Claw, a merging of the characters Batman and Wolverine). An inter-dimensional character called Access eventually manages to restore the universes to their normal state with the aid of Batman and Captain America, the presence of the two heroes- essentially serving as the brothers in miniature, each being unique among their peers- forcing the brothers to recognise how petty their disagreement truly was.
