"Brothers in Arms"
While Robin and Nightwing stake out some safe-crackers, they discuss what led each of them to become Batman's crimefighting partner. Nightwing also reveals a particularly unpleasant episode from his time as Robin: Two-Face had set up a double gallows trap, to hang either Batman or Gotham's new district attorney. Dick tried to double-bluff Two-Face but failed, leading to the death of the d.a.. Both he and Two-Face still remember this incident clearly, though Batman has never mentioned it to the current Robin. Returning to the Batcave, they meet Batman, who says he needs a rest, but this time will hand the mantle on to someone it always should have gone to: Nightwing.

"Outcast"
Jean Paul Valley confronts Tim in the Batcave and tells him he's not needed as a sidekick for the new Batman.
Under the control of the System, Batman holds Robin in a vice-like grip and could easily kill him, but his conscious self reasserts itself and Robin is released, getting out of the Batcave as quickly as possible. He then tries to get on with his normal life as Tim Drake until a date with Ariana is interrupted by the carjacking Speedboyz. He does a little investigation of his own. Later Tim chases down car theives only to be driven off the road by "Shotgun" Smith who thinks Tim is one of the car thieves.

"Two Birds, One Stone"
Robin is pursuing a jewel thief who is known as the weasel due to his talent for making a getaway. He is rather surprised to find himself assisted by ... Robin, as in Dick Grayson, brought to the present either from the past or an alternate timeline. The two Robins work together, chasing the weasel through Gotham Aquarium and having a close encounter with sharks and a killer whale. They then see him fall into a tank of piranha and call the police to get his skeleton out. The current Robin then has a flash of brilliance and the two of them head back inside, finding the crook - wringing wet - hiding in a cupboard. He had evidently planned his escape route long ago, as the tank he 'accidentally' fell into contains a species of piranha which does not indulge in eating flesh. However, as they hand him over to the police, first Dick and then everything else fades from existence...

Robin finds himself facing KGBeast in the midst of a blazing chemicals plant. The 'Beast has shot Harvey Bullock, but Robin gets some help from new detective Mackenzie Bock. Batman is elsewhere, battling Romana, though he soon realises that she has no idea where the nuclear device is. Robin holds his own against the KGBeast, but eventually his foe decides to throw the baseball-shaped device, and it looks like Robin isn't going to make the catch. Luckily, Batman has just arrived on the scene, and does make the catch - Gotham is saved. Bullock is in a coma, but it looks like he should pull through. Meanwhile, out on Blackgate Isle, the Cluemaster is planning something, something involving Robin...

Robin and Spoiler continue to search for Johnny Warren, who wrests control of the local mob from his former boss Henry Aquista. The artefact which has fused with him now gives him tremendous power, but needs to be recharged by draining the life from people. Robin and Spoiler encounter Warren and cause him to burn out. Robin thinks he's killed the man, but his body disappears from the Kane County Morgue, and Warren sets up a new life in Istanbul.

Meanwhile, Johnny Warlock hires the assassin Scarab to kill Robin, and Tim's dad discovers that his son has been leading a double life he could never have imagined. Stephanie persuades Tim that continuing as Robin is the right thing to do, and Jack Drake pays a visit to Bruce Wayne, demanding that he return his son to him. And just in case Bruce isn't sure that he's serious, he points a gun to his former neighbor's head.

Jack Drake has learned that his son has been acting as the hero Robin, though he doesn't know that Tim has been reluctant to do so for a few months (though he now feels more positive about it). Jack is convinced that Batman/Bruce Wayne has been brainwashing his boy, and is disturbed to discover that this isn't the case. However, after a long talk with his father, Tim comes to a decision. He is to quit as Robin in accordance with his dad's wishes, and in return, Jac Drake will not expose Batman and Robin's identities.

A criminal named Torrance has kidnapped a group of students and is holding them hostage at a Gotham City fast food restaurant. One of the hostages is Tim Drake. Bruce Wayne makes a televised impassioned plea for Tim's release. Later, he retreats to the Batcave to confer with Alfred. Bruce is confident that Tim has the situation well in hand. Meanwhile, Tim has managed to sneak away from his captors in order to don his Robin costume. Another well-meaning student has taken it upon himself to create his own masked sidekick identity – Dodge! Using advanced technology, Dodge has the ability to teleport remote distances via a special belt developed by his father. Robin and he cross paths while simultaneously attempting to apprehend Torrance, but all they succeed in doing is getting in one another's way. The two manage to split up and Robin corners Torrance. The older man has formed a barricade of children around him, threatening to kill each one if Robin dares to come any closer. Robin attempts to negotiate with Torrance when suddenly Dodge appears behind the criminal and tries to capture him.
The scene erupts into total chaos and another boy becomes a victim of Torrance's rampage. Robin uses some stray debris as makeshift batarangs and throws them at Torrance. One of the pieces hits Dodge's belt controls, short-circuiting the teleporter device. The resulting feedback sends a charge through Dodge's body, placing him into a coma.
