After a Gotham News journalist is killed from a riot caused by a falling angel, Batman investigates to find a whole new world: the Order of St. Dumas. The fallen angel dies from a slew of armor piercing bullets but gives instructions to his son, Jean Paul Valley, to become the next Azrael. Excellent art and cover by Joe Quesada & Kevin Nowlan and a quality first story by Denny O’Neil.
This was originally an old label that I sent to the 2022 New York Comic Con to get signed by Joe. Big thanks to the great Rich Henn for facilitating!

The Batman meets Azrael for the first time and easily dispatches him. However, Monoz provides Jean with an upgraded costume as he races to save a member of the Order of St. Dumas from the Lord Demon Biis.
More fantastic art from Joe Q and Kevin Nowlan with a compelling story from the late great Denny O’Neil. The book was signed by Mr. Quesada at the 2010 MegaCon but I don’t know who the faciliatator was. Bought in a ComicLink auction in early 2026.

Azrael defeats Lord Demon Biis after a fiery explosion but also saves the life of Batman, Alfred, and Nomoz. When Nomoz says that the Angel of Vengeance doesn’t rescue, he replies: “I am not an angel. I am a man. My name is Jean Paul Valley. That was my father’s name, too.”
