This is one of Quality's earliest titles and IMO, Quality Comics delivered just that - Quality. This is first appearance of Uncle Sam plus the origins of Buddy, Wonder Boy, and Kid Dixon. It sports a cover by the all-time great - Lou Fine and interior artwork by Will Eisner, George Tuska, Henry Kiefer, and Klaus Nordling.

Lou Fine strikes again as Uncle Sam bashed a few goons and Buddy even gets in on the action. At least Buddy hit the creep with the nail point up but it still gotta leave a mark. A host of creative talent contributed to this issue. This issue id a PLOD with only cover reinforcement but it has nice White pages.

This issue again sports a Lou Fine cover. It contains the last Uncle Sam by his creator, Will Eisner. More "Quality" creators including Eisner, Nordling, George Tuska, John Celardo, and Dan Zolnerowich.
This issue was produced prior to the USA's entry into WWII so note the absence on the swastika which is replaced by a lightning bolt on this U-boat commandant. Nice copy with white pages.

What makes this cover unusual is it is one of the few with full image (albeit small) of Quicksilver. It sports a Lou Fine cover and has interior art by the likes of Nick Cardy, George Tuska, and Dan Zolnerowich.

One of the covers that got me hooked on the Golden Age and also made me a Lou Fine fanatic. Iconic may be a better word than classic for this cover. I absolutely love this book and hope at some point I can upgrade this copy. Although for 3.0 copy, it presents exceptionally well. It was through one the Alan Light showcase books that I learned of Lou Fine. The covered his Ray and Black Condor stories and I was totally blown away. Never has been a better draftsman in my opinion than Fine. Through some other resources, I found his classic covers such as National #7, Hit #5, Fantastic #3. Good lord, he could draw. Everything seemed so effortless. Another favorite is his cover to Wonderworld #4 which I have a CGC 1.8 copy but still love that book. National #7 is still pre-WWII but I think folks got the idea of Uncle Sam battling suspiciously-resembled Nazi soldiers 0 underwater no less.

Published before the US entry into WWII, this cover invokes thoughts of the sadism the Nazis were wreaking in Europe. A plump uniformed torturer being decked by Uncle Sam while in the background two of the whipper's victims hang from chains. Lou Fine was the best draftsman of the age and this cover does nothing but validate that. cover. This copy has white pages.

Another white page issue displaying the cover talents of Lou Fine. I particularly love the slanted angle of the cover characters. Again a cast of creative abound in the issue including Rudy Palais, Will Eisner, Reed Crandall, and Nick Cardy.

Lou Fine again! The lead character, Uncle Sam, delivers quite the wallop as he smashes through a brick wall hanging onto a wrecking ball. The covers continue to feature the good uncle fighting the enemies of democracy.

The run of cool covers keeps going as Uncle Sam is shown airborne crashing into an enemy plane. The baddies don't know what hit them.
This issue is one of the scarcer in the run in my opinion. And the yellow background on the cover makes this one very appealing. THe all-star cast of creative genius continues including Lou Fine, Jack Cole, Paul Gustavson, Fred Guardineer, Klaus Nordling, and Nick Cardy.

I am not sure why this one isn't classified as a "Classic Cover." Behind #7, this is my favorite National cover - it is listed as a Reed Crandall effort but some think Fine may have done it. Either way, it is awesome.
