Stan Lee - Editor in Chief
Synopsis:
Web swinging across the city, Spider-Man finds it hard to believe that his foe, Doctor Octopus, is dead. Slipping into an alley, Spidey changes back into Peter Parker. Out on the streets, he purchases a newspaper and reads how the authorities were unable to find any trace of Doctor Octopus. Peter worries that Octavius might have survived after all. His thoughts are interrupted by Randy Robertson, who asks Peter to help participate in a student protest. Peter refuses, as he needs to investigate the situation with Doctor Octopus. Unable to explain himself, Peter leaves Randy thinking that Parker only cares about himself. As Peter goes his own way, he tosses out the newspaper, unaware that his foe is hiding in the nearby alley. Doctor Octopus recovers the discarded newspaper and is amused to learn that everyone thinks that he is dead and begins planning his next attack, vowing to get final revenge against Spider-Man.
While Doctor Octopus begins formulating his plan, Peter Parker rushes to a nearby rooftop where he changes into Spider-Man. He then begins a futile search for Doctor Octopus, but cannot find any trace of his old foe. When he swings past the Daily Bugle, he is spotted by J. Jonah Jameson who tells his city editor, Joe Robertson, to do something about it. Robertson tells Jameson that Spider-Man isn't causing any trouble, unlike the pollution that has been plaguing the city. Eventually, Spider-Man spots Doctor Octopus climbing up the smoke stack on the city's main power station. Fearing that Octavius might black out all of Manhattan, he rushes after his foe. He ambushes Doctor Octopus and the two begin fighting it out on top of the power station. Spider-Man holds his own until Ock damages a water tower, which threatens the protestors down on the street. Spider-Man braces the water tower with his body and pushes it away safely. However, this leaves Spider-Man vulnerable to attack. Octavius manages to overpower Spider-Man and intending to kill his foe, he tosses Spider-Man down to the street below.

Synopsis:
Thermo feels his bio-electric power increase as he grips Spider-Man around the throat and drains his body heat. Spider-Man sinks onto the rubble from the theater wall that Thermo just slammed him into—the very theater where Dazzler performs her stage act. Across the street, Paladin slowly regains consciousness after having been smashed through a plate-glass window by Thermo. Only the armor in his costume kept him from being killed. Suddenly Thermo is distracted by a brilliant light display, and he lets go of Spider-Man to face Dazzler. Having heard the commotion and gone outside, Dazzler uses her mutant ability to temporarily blind the Thermatronic Man. Then Spider-Man's recuperative powers quickly restore some of his strength, and he manages to stagger Thermo with a punch to the back. At the same time, Paladin shoots Thermo with his nullifier. Although the weapon again fails to knock him out, Thermo is so overwhelmed by the triple attack that he runs away down an alley. Hurling a trailer truck between himself and the pursuing Spider-Man and Paladin, he vows to return to crush them. Then he leaps over a fence and escapes. When Paladin sees the gorgeous Dazzler, his eyes light up. But then they hear police sirens, so they quickly carry Spider-Man to Dazzler's nearby apartment.

Synopsis:
Since being freed from their control, the mutant Banshee has been searching for the secret base of the Factor Three conspiracy. Searching the mountains of a small European town, Banshee uses his sonic powers to discover that one of the mountains is really hollow and correctly deduces that this is the secret hideout of Factor Three. However, the mountain is not unguarded, as a panel opens to reveal a spider-shaped robot that is armed with a paralysis ray. Although it strikes Banshee, he manages to make an escape before it had a full effect on him. Returning to his base of operations, he sends out a radio call to his friends the X-Men to tell them what he has learned. Banshee passes out before he can complete his communication, which only tells the X-Men to "beware of the spider". When agents of Factor Three arrive on the location, they find out that Banshee had attempted to contact the X-Men and report back to their commander. The commander of Factor Three then orders them to send out the spider-robot in one of their saucer crafts.
The X-Men have been searching around the mansion and through the Professor's notes to find out what they can learn about Factor Three so they can be ready for their next attack when they get Banshee's incorrect message, leaving them to ponder what exactly their comrade was warning them about. At that very moment, Peter Parker is riding his motorcycle through Westchester Country and decides to stop for a break near a stream. When he spots Factor Three's saucer in the sky, Peter ducks into an abandoned house and decides to check out the saucer as Spider-Man.

Synopsis:
Plagued by dreams of Morbius and becoming even iller, Peter Parker decides to resume his hunt for Michael Morbius after his latest nightmare rouses his roommate Harry Osborne. Deciding to seek out Hans Jorgenson once more to see if there are any leads, Spider-Man arrives just after Jorgenson is kidnapped by Morbius himself. When Spider-Man is spotted by the landlady, Spider-Man is blamed for the scientists kidnapping.
When news of Jorgenson's supposed kidnapping by Spider-Man reaches Charles Xavier (an old colleague of Jorgenson) he once more summons his charges the X-Men. Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Angel and Ice Man all answer his summons, however, the Beast refuses to join, having a mission of his own to accomplish. Professor X sends the X-Men out into New York City to track down Spider-Man.
When they find the wall-crawler, a battle ensues ending with Spider-Man being over-powered by the X-Men and restrained by Marvel Girl. Learning via a psi-probe that Morbius kidnapped Jorgenson, Xavier orders the X-Men to bring the now comatose Spider-Man back to the X-Mansion for further probing and to study Jorgenson's notes.
There they learn that Spider-Man will soon die due to a toxin used to cure him of four additional arms that he gained during his last encounter with Morbius. They also learn that Jorgenson was working on a cure which could be utilized by Morbius' blood.
In order to rescue his friend and save Spider-Man, Professor X sends the X-Men out to capture Morbius. After a lengthy battle, the X-Men manage to defeat Morbius and rescue Jorgenson. Afterwards, Jorgenson is able to cure Spider-Man, who thanks the X-Men before leaving them to deal with Morbius.

Archie Goodwin - Editor
Synopsis:
Government agent Stephen Marchesi has come to the Nest, a secret government nuclear testing facility located in the Pahute Mesa region of Nevada, where a team of scientists is working hard to try and find a solution to the world's dwindling energy resources by finding alternative energy sources. Among the scientists are Brian Mann, the nuclear physicist in charge; Vic Norman, a bio-physicist; Jan Maarshall, an electrical engineer; Karen Lee, a geologist, and Marchei's ex-wife; Si Fan Chung, an Astronomer, and Karen's new lover; Martin Aaronson a radiation expert, and Randy Tate the project overseer and former flight attendant. As they are testing out a new experimental form of radioactive energy dubbed the Nila Pile, a sudden earthquake disrupts the experiment, shattering the containment glass and causing an explosion seemingly killing everyone as the facility explodes in a massive nuclear explosion. The project was canceled by the government shortly thereafter.
Months later a Boeing 474 is flying over the Arizona desert on its way to the International Conference on Man-Made Mutation. Aboard the plane are noted scientists Sir Lionel, Dr. Fermizi, Dr. Mishkin, and the outspoken Senator Turner. Turner is in a fury not only because a Soviet Dr. Miskin is aboard the plane, but because accompanying Professor Charles Xavier are his students, who managed to get a free flight on Reed Richards' say-so. Professor Xavier defends his students' presence aboard the plane to all gathered there, including Peter Parker, who has been selected by Sir Lionel to cover the story for the Daily Bugle due to Parker's background as a physics student. Things become heated when Wolverine begins to pick a fight with the Senator.

Synopsis:
Spider-Man returns to his apartment through the skylight. Suddenly, his landlord, Maimie Muggins, begins pounding on the door demanding that Peter pay up his overdue rent. Trying to make a retreat back out the skylight, Spider-Man narrowly avoids being seen by the new neighbors who moved in next door, who have come up to the roof to tan.[Continuity 1] With Miss Muggins threatening to come into the apartment, Peter quickly strips off his costume and throws a towel around himself to make it look as though he just got out of the shower. He tries to deflect her demands by complaining about their neighbors. However, Muggins points out that one of the women up on the roof is her niece and she pays her rent on time. Peter assures her that he will pay his rent on Thursday, which satisfied Maimie for the time being. Peter worries about his money situation as he is broke and still needs to
Meanwhile, in a cargo plane above an Asian jungle, the Juggernaut is told by the pilot they are near the area he was to be flown over. Satisfied, the Juggernaut leaps out of the plane, ignoring the pilots warning that a regional army is conducting battle maneuvers in the jungles below. Below, a group of Korean soldiers witness as the Juggernaut falls from the sky and run for cover. The massive brute easily shakes off the hard landing and swats away the soldiers when they open fire upon him. The Juggernaut has come to make up for failing to capture Madam Webb for his partner Black Tom.[Continuity 3] Eventually, the Juggernaut makes his way to the ruins of the Temple of Cyttorak where he got his powers years earlier.[Continuity 4] Among the ruins, he finds the Crimson Gem of Cyttorak and intends to bring it to Black Tom so that he can make his friend as powerful as he is. While back in New York, Peter has had no luck finding any newsworthy photos, particularly since Joe Robertson has been uninterested in Spider-Man photos. On his way back up to his apartment, he is approached by his neighbors Bambi, Candi and Randi. They ask him why he has a problem with them sunbathing. Peter quickly explains it was an excuse to distract Mrs. Muggins from the issue of his rent. When he tells them that he is a freelance photographer, the three women get excited. They had come to New York to pursue careers in modeling and ask Peter to photograph them in exchange for lunch. This being the best meal he's been offered in days, Peter is more than happy to oblige.
