Owner's Description

THESE LOW POP VARIETY JEFFERSONS DESERVE RECOGNITON!

There were no San Francisco minted coins that were produced in 1955. Apparently thou, there were some "S" Mintmark Dies that the Top Officials at the Mint didn't want to scrap-out. They sent all these Dies to the Denver Mint,so stamping again, but this time with the denver die creating not only confusion, but also the only explanation for so many D/S variety nickels.

There were at least (10) Different-Dies identified, however' only (1) Die stood-out among all, being the most prominent D/S Variety, this was Labeled as the FS-501 Jefferson. They had to make (2) separate tables showing the populations of all these Variety Types.

The (1st Table), Below Shows Just How Scarce-

NGC grading service has only a total graded of (8) with only (3) being in the highest grade of MS65. PCGS grading service shows only (4) population of these Variety- 501 coins, with only (2) in this grade of MS65. A truely superb example of this tough Jefferson nickel major variety. Tough to find one any nicer than this! The coin has a decent strike for the date, with very few distractions and a clear D/S mintmark.

This (2nd Table) of Varieties are lesser defined dies, there were quite a few. This was a great find for me being fortunate enough to find one of these 1955 overmintmarked nickels. There currently have been no fullsteps found in either of the top-two grading services. Can you imagine finding one Today! Ngc and Pcgs only graded out a Total of (5) in FS-501-MS65 Grades, where None have been graded higher than that.
