Owner's Description
Flash teams up with the Reverse Flash to battle Mr. Element in Issue #147 from 1964. While staying at home during the pandemic, I have spent many hours updating the records of our collection. The census here is topped by three 9.8s and, somewhat surprisingly, I discovered that at one time we owned all three of those 9.8s. In fact, until I checked my shelves, I was not sure exactly which book or books we had kept.
I am not sure if this is the nicest of the three or not, there was a very nice copy with WP we bought in 2012. But I believe this was the first book to achieve 9.8 status and the Pacific Coast pedigree copy, so we opted to keep this one. Considered the greatest Silver Age collection to ever surface, the Pacific Coast collection was brought to market by Robert Roter after he discovered portions of it for sale on eBay in 1999. The books were marketed through PCE over the next several years and contained over 7,000 comics and magazines that included Marvel, DC, and Gold Key among others, covering a time span between 1961 and 1977. Many of the highest graded Marvel and DC issues from the early '60s hail from this collection with exceptional page quality. The books do not exhibit any distinguishing markings.
As an aside, it is always a difficult call for me whether to go for a Pedigree or WP, everything else being even. I think right now the market favors white pages over Pedigree, but I generally opt for the Pedigree because the census and PQ can always change.
We acquired this book in the December 2010 CL Auction.
