Johan Carl Fredrich Gauss, 1777-1855, was a German mathematician and physicist who made significant contributions to many fields in mathematics and science. He is known for many things, including the “Gaussian” or normal distribution of random numbers, shown on the graphs with mean (mu) and standard deviation (sigma) indicated.
