Owner Comments:
The Kingdom of Denmark-Norway was administered by Danish monarchs during the two kingdoms' personal union of 1660-1814. Norway issued its own coinage and circulated alongside Danish currency during this period -- the rigsdaler specie at 120 skilling was the large silver crown equivalent. The rigsdaler specie would be renamed the speciedaler in 1816 but you are likely to see the earlier rigsdaler specie catalogued as such. My example of the rigsdaler specie was minted in Kongsberg at the Royal Norwegian Mint.
