In 1926 the reverse design changed only slightly in the inscription in terms of the digits 2 1/2. The obverse design shows the crowned & coronation enrobed bust of King George V with inscription GEORGIVS V REX IMPERATOR. The reverse design shows a garnished CROWNED (unlike the florin which is uncrowned) shield quartered with the symbols for the four provinces of the union namely the figure of HOPE for the CAPE, 2 running wildebeeste facing left for NATAL, an orange tree for the ORANGE FREE STATE & an ox wagon for the TRANSVAAL - THE ARMS OF THE UNION OF SOUTH AFRICA. The date is split on either side of the shield. The inscription reads * SOUTH - AFRICA * ZUID - AFRIKA * 2 1/2 SHILLINGS. The reverse design remained unchanged until 1931.
