Gloucestershire Gloucester DH #1 - Diesinker: Thomas Wyon, Manufacturer: Peter Kempson. Obverse: a view of Gloucester Cathedral GLOUCESTER CATHEDRAL Ex: FIRST BUILT 1061. Reverse: the Arms of the Borough of Gloucester surmounted by a Cap of Maintenance with CITY TOKEN at the sides of the shield and P. KEMPSON FECIT alongside. Edge: Plain.
The formal name of the Cathedral is the Cathedral of St. Peter and the Holy and Indivisible Trinity, the Gloucester Cathedral was first built in 1061 and re-established by Henry VIII in 1541. It originated in 678 or 679 with the foundation of an abbey dedicated to St. Peter.
