Gloucestershire Gloucester DH #2 - Diesinker: Thomas Wyon, Manufacturer: Peter Kempson. Obverse: east view of a church and adjoining building ST. MARY DE CRYPT CHURCH Ex: AND SCHOOL. Reverse: the Arms of the Borough of Gloucester surmounted by a Cap of Maintenance with CITY TOKEN at the sides of the shield and P. KEMPSON FECIT alongside. Edge: Plain.
St. Mary de Crypt was first recorded in 1140 and is a cruciform Gothic church with a central tower. The adjoining building is the Free Grammer School of St. Mary de Crypt. St. Mary de Crypt is located on the east side of Southgate street.
