9. Britannia

Britannia is considered the female personification of Britain, symbolizing its ideals and values throughout history. Britannia has appeared on British coinage since 1672, although the Romans were the first to portray her on their coins. Ancient Roman coins depicted Britannia as a fragile and brooding figure, however, over the centuries Britannia has developed into a ‘warrior queen,’ wearing a Corinthians hat, wielding a shield and trident, as symbols of protection and security.
