Owner Comments:

Borderline DCAM/UCAM!

This year is supposedly the "common date" for the Mercury Dime series in gem cameo proof, and I say that tongue in cheek. Mercury Dimes are rare to extremely rare in true cameo condition, and even many of the designated coins on the market possess only mediocre contrasts. Some even have devices that are incompletely frosted. This is not true of this astounding jewel!

In hand, the devices are heavily frosted, and the coin exhibits a stark white-on-black appearance that is completely devoid of toning. The fields are jet black and show infinite depth of mirroring. The contrasts are much deeper in hand, and the coin truly borders on ultra/deep cameo. This is also the reason that NGC awarded this coin its coveted star designation in addition to the cameo designation. Only four such coins exist for the entire series. This coin has very few peers. Please excuse the chip on the holder that appears over the obverse devices.

Population 3/0 in 67* CAM. NGC has certified one non-star cameo piece higher in PF68 cameo. PCGS has certified 4 in PF67 cameo with none numerically finer. Using PCGS and NGC total populations for all grades combined (not accounting for crack-outs and duplicate submissions), designated cameo coins comprise 0.65% of the total population. Star designated cameo coins comprise 0.03% of the total population.
