Medal, Plaque, 1910, Bronze, France. ON THE VERGE OF THE SEA (Au Bord de la Mer), c. 1910, a uniface bronze plaque by A.P. Schwab. VERY RARE. Obv. elderly lady in Breton hat seated on rock by the sea, contemplating a monument with cross at top, ship in distance, 89 x 69mm (BDM V, 410). Rounded Top. Near Mint and Excessively Rare. In the last 20 years, the only other example to show up at auction was DNW 6 July, 2005, Lot 1514 which was VF at best. Purchased from Hedley Betts. Medallist: A.P. Schwab was a sculptor, engraver, medalist, who was born in Nancy in 1883. He was a pupil of Jules Clement Chaplain and Marius Jean Mercie. He exhibited in Paris at the Salon of French Artists from 1905 he was Associate Member pre-season. He won a Gold Medal in 1926. Also known for plaquette Le Chant and "Mam and Tad".
