Owner Comments:
Only 5 estimated each of the two types of aluminum 5 shillings (Crown) are thought to exist. The difference between the two is purely the weight, diameter and size of the coin. The coins are fairly light been aluminum. The same dies were used. President Burgers bust is on the obverse and the Transvaal coat of Arms on the reverse. There are silver and bronze gilt patterns and, although very similar at first glance, the difference in the design do vary (reeded, smooth edge, smaller size with different sized dates etc). In my opinion, any aluminum coin able to grade in a proof state is remarkable as aluminum seems to produce poor quality coinage.
