Regular dies trial issue. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. This popular transitional issue is believed to have been struck along with other restrikes dated 1863 and 1864. It is possible, however, that some of the dozen or so known examples were actually struck in 1865. Both obverse and reverse have a mixture of deep blue-green and brown patina with occasional hints of red.
