The first commemorative dollar of 2000 was the Library of Congress Silver Dollar, issued in honor of the 200th anniversary of the library's founding in 1800. The obverse of the coin features an open book, resting on a closed book, and what is represented to be the Torch of Learning. The reverse side of the coin is a depiction of the dome of the Library of Congress's Thomas Jefferson Building.
There were 53,264 uncirculated and 198,503 proof coins produced by the Philadelphia Mint. The MS70 graded dollars are plentiful and easy to find. The PF70 graded dollar is difficult to find.
