Owner Comments:

The only commemorative gold coin of 2001 was the Capitol Visitor Center $5 Gold Coin, issued with surcharges added to support the construction of a visitor center at the U.S. Capitol Building. The obverse of the coin shows an image of the top portion of a Corinthian column with an inscription that reads "1800 First Convening of Congress in Washington." The reverse features a view of the original 1800 Capitol building.

There were only 6,761 uncirculated and 27,652 proof coins produced by the West Point Mint. These coins are fairly easy to find (at a substantial premium) in perfect MS70 condition (about 1,170 graded by NGC in MS70) and in perfect PF70 condition (about 700 graded in PF70, or about 60% of those graded in PF69 condition).

Ebay auction purchase, 12/10/2022 from eerc (Eagle Eye Rare Coins)
