Owner Comments:
In 2006, the mint renovated the long-standing profile of Thomas Jefferson by Felix Schlag with a front-facing portrait by Jamie Franki. The portrait considered by many to be more modern looking is actually based on the famous painting by Rembrandt Peale. The reverse design of Monticello, also designed by Schlag, remains.
In 2017, the 225th anniversary of the mint, the San Francisco Mint produced a unique "Enhanced Mint Set" which included a nickel with a special finish.
In 2018, the San Francisco Mint produced a "Silver Reverse Proof Set" which included a nickel with a reverse proof finish.
In 2020, the West Point Mint produced the first two nickels with a W mintmark: a proof and a reverse proof.
