Owner Comments:

I purchased this chocolate brown, relatively well detailed "Classic Head" large cent uncertified at a local coin auction in February 2004 and submitted it to NGC for certification in June 2022. I attended auctions held by this small company from the mid-1970s until it ceased to conduct auctions in around 2013. Many of the lots were overgraded, impaired, or occasionally counterfeit or altered. At times, however, I was able to obtain decent coins like this one for a reasonable price, as many of the attendees couldn't tell the difference.

Many Classic Head cents were poorly struck on dark or porous planchets, making this one especially desirable. They're also hard to find in grades as high as Extremely Fine. I attributed this coin as an S292, one of only two die varieties for this year. I took the photos before submitting the coin for certification.
