Owner Comments:

It is easy to see why NGC decided to bestow the coveted "Star" designation, denoting exceptional eye appeal, on this splendid, pristine specimen. All of the design elements are crisply and fully outlined. The portrait of Liberty and the eagle are amply frosted and seem suspended above deeply watery fields. Vivid russet, red, and cobalt-blue toning encircles flashy, untoned centers. This beautiful Superb Gem proof from the Civil War era must be one of the finest survivors from a mintage of 550 pieces. None have been graded finer, at either of the major services. In fact, no other example of this issue has been certified at the PR67 level, with the Cameo caveat, making this coin the single finest-known.
