Owner Comments:
The mint actually solicited designs from the public through a competition once the decision was made to abandon the seated liberty design. Judges for the competition were Augustus St. Gaudens, Henry Mitchell and mint engraver, Charles E. Barber. After all submittals were ultimately rejected, Mr. Barber was given the assignment....go figure. His initial is on the truncation of the neck. We purchased this Barber dime at the Long Beach show a couple of years ago. I enjoy the toning that Mother Nature has painted on this piece. The original coloring and low population (NGC-22) make this coin one of our favorites.
