Philippines - 1967 1 Peso - KM #195 - 25th Anniversary of Bataan Day - Mintage: 100,000
Minted by the San Francisco Mint in:
...April, 1967: .....12,000
... May, 1967: .....88,000
........................------------
..............Total: ..100,000

hese coins were stuck with Proof-Like surfaces by the US Mint in San Francisco for the republic of the Philippines to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Bataan Day (April 9th, 942). At this time, I don't know who designed this coins. The following is a photo of the Fall of Bataan historical marker at the Bataan Provincial Capitol grounds.

historical marker

If the photo of the historical marker doesn't appear above, here is the text:

"THE FALL OF BATAAN - 9 April 1942"

"Sealed in blood the permanent ties of friendship and cooperation between the Philippines and the United States. This marker is dedicated, 9 April 1952, to the memory of the gallant Filipino and American soldiers as well as civilians, who fought and died side by side in the defense of Democracy."

I own one of the finest known specimen which is a PCGS PL67. Unfortunately, I can only use that one in custom sets, so I acquired this beautiful specimen with the hope that it would grade a bit higher than a 65. Hmmm.
