Philippines - 1969 Emilio Aguinaldo One Piso - KM #201 - Mintage: 100,000
Composition: 0.9000 Silver
Weight: 26.4499g

This commemorative coin was minted in mirror Proof Like condition by the San Francisco Mint for circulation in The Philippines. From 1947 through 1966, all text on Philippine coinage was in English. In 1967 though, it was changed to Pilipino which was based on Tagalog, the language of a major ethnic group in the Philippines. The 1967 Philippine Constitution changed the name of the official Philippine language to Filipino. This change of language applied uniformly to all Philippine coinage in 1967 except for the Pesos. The 1967 Bataan commemorative Peso was still produced with English inscriptions. The pattern for the Aguinaldo commemorative coin was actually a mixed language coin, with a very similar obverse design in Filipino, and the reverse exactly the same as the Bataan commemorative in English. The Filipino inscription on the obverse roughly translates to "Centennial Year Birthday." The name of the denomination was also translated from "Peso" to "Piso."
As of this revision, this beautiful Proof Like coin is one of the six finest known specimens. The NGC population is 6/0 and PCGS is 0/0. I added it to a group of coins I was sending to NGC almost as an afterthought, and now I'm very glad I did.
