Owner Comments:
In 2017, a commemorative half dollar was issued to honor the 100th Anniversary of the Boys Town charity (formerly Girls and Boys Town and Father Flanagan's Boys' Home). This was the 23rd half dollar minted in the "Modern Commemorative" era. The obverse of the 2017-D half dollar features two boys standing in front of the Boys Town Monument with the inscription "Saving Children." The reverse features (on the top half) four graduating students, male and female, and on the bottom half a depiction of the original Boys Town Home and the inscription "Healing Families."
There were 15,549 uncirculated coins produced (the smallest since the program began). These half dollars are made from 92% copper and 8% nickel. The 2017-D half is difficult to find in perfect MS70 graded condition.
